The Sadness - (2021)

Director: Rob Jabbaz.

A Taiwanese zombie movie, that is unremarkable in many ways but I enjoyed watching it because of the setting in the outskirts of Taipei and the memories this landscape evokes from my past travels.

It's not a bad movie, the acting is quite good and the cinematography is top notch. But it's a zombie movie, and as such, it's predictable and not interesting.

It also got me thinking about camp. I think I like the interpretation of over the top, meaning, one first must be at their top in order to get over it. e.g. Julianne Moore's performance in Maps To The Stars (2014). I would say The Sadness is camp: I felt the director and actors are mastering their craft and push it over the top. Not like many other cheap zombie movies I've seen who aim for camp but hit the bottom trash.

Verdict: 3 / 5 ★ - A decent movie for a Halloween night.
