Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - (2018)

Directors: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman.

I got a strong headache watching this one. I couldn't stop analyzing the animation techniques that were used in this film, which means, the story didn't really grab me.

I don't like mixed animation techniques, I'm a purist when it comes to animation, and watching a digital puppet theater (AKA 3D animation) is the least of my favorites.

I particularly dislike 3D animation that tries to look like 2D or stop motion by dropping the fps and using lights and shaders that mimic clay and paint.

This film took it to the next level by using extreme chromatic aberration and halftone textures in lighting. To me this looks super cheap and fake.

I did enjoy the short parts that where in 2d and wished the whole movie had used more traditional animation techniques.

I don't care about the story and the characters, it's Spiderman. Nothing new here...

Verdict: 2 / 5 ★ - does not live to the hype.
