It could have been a good movie if it had a better defined visual style and if the subjects of voodoo and slavery were developed with more courage.
Also:
I am sick of movies that are doing cheap homages to classical movies without delivering the same appreciation in the story telling.
In this case they did homage to The Shining in the opening and ending titles. It looks cheap and childish.
Coping the titles from Kubrick doesn't make you a good filmmaker...
