Surprisingly good, I would even go to say it has more of a Stephen King vibe than The Shining.
The weakest point of this film is the antagonist, who's too young, pretty, cool makeuped and overall flat. This character doesn't belong to this world, and by making her like that, ruins the whole film.
The cinematography and editing are also not to my liking (mostly)
But I think the atmosphere and the world building surrounding the shining is well done and interesting.
The final act at the Overlook Hotel is exactly what a fanboy like myself needed: The set design, camera angles, editing and sound design are so similar to The Shining, I had goosebumps, and a strong emotional reaction - I was genuinely scared and nostalgic at the same time.
Verdict: 2.5 / 5 ★ - Okay.
